  • Students will understand that satire effectively gets a message about society across because it cloaks the message in humor that is easily digestible and holds your attention

DOK choices

Original satirical article
  • Write a satirical article about a topic you feel strongly about
    • Article should be 300-500 words
    • Employ at least two different satiric devices in your article

Satire analysis PPT or Prezi
  • Create a 5-slide PPT or Prezi that analyzes the use of satire in society
    • Slide 1: define satire in your own words
    • Slide 2: explain one satiric device and give examples from sources (2)
    • Slide 3: explain a second satiric device and give examples from sources (2)
    • Slide 4: explain a third satiric device and give examples from sources (2) 
    • Slide 5: conclude with your opinion about the efficacy (or lack thereof) of satire

Original editorial cartoons
  • Create three editorial cartoons about school, BV, society, or politics
    • each should employ a different satiric device
    • plan to draft: create a rough draft to get idea across, conference about idea, then draw the final, clean copy
    • explain each of your cartoons - verbally or in writing (1 paragraph each)
      • what's happening in your cartoon
      • what the deeper message is
      • how you've used satire to get your point across
